Why this banding?

  • image is rotated by 90°

  • horizontal bands are ~1350 pixels wide

  • see that, along profile_white_B,

    • deglinting is bad as of 0.8 km

    • and improves gradually until 3.5 km

  • this is a problem of the WV2 sensor

  • this is the cause of too many "under-estimated" depths , as noted  above

  • this causes the above seatruth regression to be offset from diagonal

  • this reminds me of WV2 at Geraldton

  • waters in Waimanalo Bay exhibit Oceanic 1A water type of Jerlov

  • the coverage of Kanehoe Bay exhibits Coastal 1 water type: requires separate calibration and processing

  • the "pollution" is still there, but weaker and less extended than in march 2011: it mostly affects the red band which appears to "glow" by a few extra DNs
    • could it be a submerged spring of ground water?
       
  • radiometric artifacts show badly in the results
  • by far, greenish bottom types dominate the whole area
