Now, using the Panchro channel and a suitable coverage of deep waters areas and of land areas
bands 1, 2, 3, panchro, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8            become               bands 
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9

Following several attempts using a limited WV2 MULTI and PAN
coverage of Marmion Marine park provided by Simon Allen, CSIRO,
DigitalGlobe provided me on Dec_12th_2012 with this new MULTI+PAN dataset,
which covers 65000 lines at 2 m ground resolution
to provide a good coverage of optically deep water areas and of land areas:


It is comprised of 22 tiles over two adjacent full segments

  • MULTI is comprised of

1 - NO NEED for field data, nor for atmospheric correction
2 - this is demonstrated in this website, using a variety of hyper/multi spectral data
Requirements are
1 - homogeneous water body and atmosphere
2 - some coverage of optically deep water
3 - some coverage of dry land
Problems are
1 - the precision on estimated depth is found wanting, because the noise-equivalent change in radiance  of accessible data is too high for shallow water column correction work 
2 - radiance data should be preprocessed by the provider at level 1 in order to improve S/N ratio
3 - exponential decay: the deeper/darker the bottom, the poorer the performances
