The optical model is now complete
or so I figure - seatruth shall have the last word:

we may now proceed to run
the 4SM water column correction code.

LB=Lw+(Ls-Lsw)*exp(2K*Z)
The simplified radiative transfer equation is inverted
while increasing Z in meters,

 until the radiance ratio fits the Soils Line to satisfaction.
With 2K in meters-1 and Z in meters.

 
  • 3 bands case: radiance ratio= (LBBlue+LBPurple) / (2*LBGreen  )
  • 4 bands case: radiance ratio= (LBGreen+LBBlue+LBPurple) / (3*LBPAN  )
This is a "ratio" method:
works with raw data coded as DNs,
no need for conversion into physical units of radiance or reflectance.

Yields both
Retrieved Depth Z, and spectral water column corrected radiance LB
.


 
Final Z = Htide + Z * coefZ
Htide and coefZ to be evaluated using ancillary data.

  • This exercise gives me the opportunity to test 4SM results against suitable seatruth data,
    • in collaboration with a team of knowledgeable practionners: not to be missed, my first opportunity!
  • But in case we pursue this venture, please be advised that there shall be a learning curve:
    • took me over 20 years of stubborn work using tens and tens of images, multispectral and hyperspectral, airborne ans spaceborne, in sheer isolation and/or in spite of hostile perception on the part of either ignorant/greedy persons or concerned established big names/institutions with vested interests.
    • WV2 at Laganas is certainly not where you should get started hands on!!!
