The image extends accross the Florida shallow bay from the Everglagdes (North) to Looe Key (Florida Keys, South)
 

 

 

Some seatruth of opportunity
 
  • White and Green profiles
    • from ZhongPing Lee et al. are 18 km long



 
  • Yellow profile
    • from Densham's thesis is ~650 m lo


Optical calibration under yellow mask
for bands NIR=26, Red=21, Green=11 and Blue=4

 

  • this is "blue waters" over the outer reef
  • very low K values in the blue range are indicative of very clear "blue water": Sargasso Sea is not far away:
    • Water type OIB
  • the blue dot shows the radiance at the deepest point of Green Line in the moat which would be excpected to yield ~15 m of depth (instead of ~10-11 m here -see below-)

Optical calibration under red mask
for bands NIR=26, Red=21, Green=11 and Blue=4
  • Lw would seem to be next to null over the whole blue range
  • this is necessary in order to prevent computing negative bottom reflectances over the darker areas
  • this is coastal waters over the Florida bay
    • depth does not exceed ~4 m under red mask
    • Kblue~=Kgreen
  • high K values in the blue range are indicative of coastal water:
    • Water type OIII
    • possibly more "cosatal" among the keys and in the Everglades

  • Note that the "shoulder" at ~10 m is present





This brings a nice support
to our 4SM calibration
